Active Living:
Make physical activity a regular part of the day

How Much Physical Activity Do You Need?

Adults 


  • At least 2.5 hours a week of moderate, or 1.25 hours a week of vigorous, physical activity.
  • 30 minutes of moderate exercise (or 15 minutes of vigorous exercise) 5 days per week. 
  • TIP: spread activity over at least 3 days a week.
  • Perform strengthening exercises at least 2 days per week. 

Children (6-17 years)


  • At least 60-minutes of moderate or vigorous activity each day. 
  • Vigorous activity should be done at least 3 days a week, included in the 60-minutes per day.
  • Partake in muscle-strengthening activities at least 3 days per week, such as climbing or monkey bars. 

Young Children
​(3-5 years)


  • Engage in physical activity throughout the day to enhance growth and development.

At Home


At Play 


  • Join a walking group ​
  • Go on a family bike ride
  • Clean the house or wash the car
  • Mow the lawn with a push mower
  • Exercise to a workout video 
  • Take your dogs for a walk
  • Take a nature walk - don't forget your local old logging roads!
  • Go on a family scavenger hunt
  • Play recreational baseball, softball or basketball 
  • Try geocaching

At Work


  • Walk or ride your bike to work
  • If you have a desk job: take a brief walk around the office every 30-minutes. Stretch!
  • Replace your coffee break with a brisk 10-minute walk. Ask a coworker to go with you.
  • Stand up! Ask your employer for a standing work station
